While some couples may not see their wedding stationery as particularly important, the truth is that it can completely set the tone and theme for your wedding. When you’re planning your wedding and its theme, and when you’re picking out stationery, bear in mind that the save the date card or wedding invitation will be the first glimpse of your big day that your guests will have, and will provide them with some insight into what the day itself will be like.
With that in mind, it can often be pretty difficult for couples to choose their perfect wedding stationery; you’ll need to have your wedding theme ideas in place before deciding. Here at WEDFEST, there are certain themes that we work with pretty regularly when designing themed wedding stationery – but we can turn our hand to pretty much anything! For example see the Ibiza Lovefest themed wedding invitation above and the Picnic in the Park themed wedding invites below… both themes couldn’t be further apart in style and settings and yet both of them are beautiful and original wedding invitation designs.
The theme of your wedding needs to be decided before anything is posted out to guests; once you have your theme, then your save the date cards and invitations can help to set the tone for the rest of the big day. A theme that is personal to you and your partner will not only make it easier to decide on how you want individual elements of your wedding day to work, but will also inject some of your personalities into the day, celebrating what is important to you both and making your wedding stand out from the crowd. See below an example of a summer wedding save the date card for a wedding taking place by the beach.
While some may think of themed weddings as tacky, they don’t have to be that way! There are plenty of tasteful ways in which you can incorporate a theme into your wedding day, and make the occasion fun, meaningful and different.
If you’re a couple that enjoys travelling, met in a foreign country or are tying the knot abroad, then a travel-themed wedding could be perfect. Themed wedding invitations in the form of airline tickets or maps could be a great introduction to the theme, which could spread through to world map table plans, location-based table names and more.
Alternatively, festival-lovers may want to consider a festival-themed wedding; think live music, street food and more. The day could include themed wedding invites in the form of replicas of festival tickets, or designed as a lanyard with a separate sheet containing information about different elements of the wedding (date, location, menu, accommodation, gift list and more). You could even consider issuing wristbands on arrival to add even more authenticity to that festival environment.
Couples with a love of the cinema could even use this as their theme for the day, with the wedding based around a particular film, genre or even character. With movie ticket-style invites and place cards, orders of service designed to resemble the credits that roll after a movie is screened, favours in miniature popcorn boxes and plenty more options, it’s a fun theme to work with that will leave your guests in awe.
You may have met or bonded over a love of music, and this love can also be reflected in a fantastic wedding theme. Here at WEDFEST, we’ve designed a whole host of music-themed wedding stationery, including rock music and rockabilly themes and more. We’ve also worked on themes that are designed to reflect other interests that the happy couples have, such as book themed wedding invites, skiing themed wedding stationery, football ticket wedding invites, all things vintage and anything else you can think of.
Your themed doesn’t have to be centred around your interests, though – you could choose a winter, summer, spring, or autumn theme to match the season in which your big day falls instead. With a theme such as this, your wedding stationery could be based around the colours commonly associated with the season, or with the changes in nature that each season brings. See below the contrasting colours and styles in some winter, spring and summer themed wedding stationery we have designed here at wedfest.
Obviously, these are just a few ideas of wedding themes that could work without looking tacky – the final decision is, of course, down to you. It’s simply a case of choosing the theme that best represents your relationship with each other and the type of wedding ceremony and reception that you are looking for, and the rest will easily fall into place.
