Throw a Festival Themed Party at Home
Celebrating your birthday at home with a mini festival style birthday party is OBVIOUSLY a great idea… and if you are reading this during this current covid-19 pandemic lockdown then it is an even BETTER idea! Just because we have to stay at home does not mean we cannot have fun, and definitely does not mean we cannot have a party! So yes! Let’s celebrate and throw your own mini festival for you and your family or your quarantine crew.
Festival themed Birthday Party
So we have had a think and came up with some ideas for festival themed birthday parties at home… of course these ideas do not just apply to this current lockdown we are in, these ideas work all the time AKA when life is back to normal…
So if you love nothing more than going to festivals and concerts, gathering up your wellies and camping chairs and heading to a field for a few days with your best mates and a few cans of beer or cider then keep reading…
Festival Themed Party at Home
You can create your very own mini festival from home in just a few easy steps! Why wait until festival season starts (if it even starts this year at all!!) to bring out your festival gear? If you are the type of person that daydreams about that magical moment when you hand over your festival ticket and get that fresh new festival wristband on your wrist in exchange and cracking open that first drink once your tent is set up (or before) then we are speaking directly to you 🙂
What if you could enjoy all the awesome things that you love about a festival without the mud and stinky portaloos? Whilst they are part of what makes a festival, we know that you secretly enjoy being clean and having your own nice clean toilet.
So what exactly do you need to make your HOMEFEST or BIRTHDAYFEST rival Glasto or your favourite music festival?
Festival Party Invitations / Festival Birthday Party Invitations
Now when it comes to festival themed party invites and festival themed birthday party invitations we at WedFest are your go to guys! No one does festival invitations like we do and below is just a few examples of what is possible…
You can send your invites in the form of festival flyers, festival posters, festival tickets or even festival style VIP Lanyards. The options for festival themed party invitations are endless and we have hundreds of designs and ideas that we can share with you.
Of course if it is just a small party you can just text your friends and family… and of course if it is during this lockdown that we are in you can just walk into the living room and tell your family about the party haha! 🙂 But since people are looking for things to do for fun why not just make the invites and give them to your family or housemates, and get them excited for the weekend 🙂
Music and a Sound System
Probably the most important (not including beer) and also the most obvious is the music! It ain’t a festival without music so let’s start at the start! Music is what you go to festivals for! Now let’s be real you are not going to get The Killers or whoever your favourite band is to play in your back garden but we can still listen and sing along to all of their hits. What you need here is music played loud! Whether it is played on the sound bar for your TV, your home speaker system, your portable speakers or your Google Echo (Alexa) all of these options will work!! Even your iPhone will do the trick, all you need is the music and turn it up to 11!
Luckily for us the likes of Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music provide hundreds of festival playlists for all genres of music no matter what your taste. Spotify as an example has so many awesome playlists to choose from right now – in particular the playlist ‘Festivals 2020’ and ‘Festival Anthems’ has a good mix of festival headliners music. You can also search for specific festivals and you will find a playlist, e.g. Coachella 2020 lineup playlist and Glastonbury etc. No matter what your musical taste is, the music and the playlists are out there! Even better curate your own playlist for what you would like to hear at a music festival and listen to your favourite tunes all day/night long.
If you want to bring the festival crowd atmosphere to your living room or garden, get some Live Performances up on YouTube. The sound of the crowd cheering will make you feel like you are there!! (Almost). Many of the best festival performances from over the years are on YouTube so you can watch headline sets from Coachella, Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds etc. to name just a few, just have a search.
Maybe you have a bit more budget to spend on your Home Festival or birthday party festival (and are not currently in lockdown), or maybe you have a lot of family or friends who are musicians. If so why not ask them to play, or hire a live band or artist to come play your garden festival. In fact if you can why not get several to play over the course of the day and create that all day festival vibe. Of course if you are hiring a live band they are likely to have their own equipment and sound system so thats the music sorted!!
At night time why not have a little DJ session and get the dance village / disco vibe going. This could be in the form of an actual DJ set or you and your festival buddies can take turns picking the tunes, which is always great fun as someone is always rubbish at it. Another idea if you have the budget is you could rent some silent disco headsets and have a late night silent disco, unless of course your neighbours love hearing loud music at 3am 🙂
Festival Lighting and Festival Party Decorations
To really get the festival vibe going decorate your garden or house with bunting, festoon lights or fairy lights to give that festival feel to the party. As well as tea lights and candles dotted around at night time to bring that festival magic to the party. Why not even invest in some disco lights or a disco ball to really get the party going when the sun goes down. All of these things can be picked up quite cheaply on Ebay or Amazon and will certainly add to the festival theme of the party.
If you are planning to go bigger why not hire some Festival Flags and really create a festival vibe, or have a go at making your own flags or hang streamers and ribbons from anything and everything possible.
Why not set up some tents or mini tipi’s in your garden. Not only will this add to the festival vibe but will also be somewhere for guests to chill and relax for a while, or create little corners for people to talk and catch up. Like wise if it rains (like it always does at festivals) you can shelter from the rain in the tents. And if you really want to have the full festival experience why not get everyone to sleep in the tents at night… you can be sure a few people will use them to crash in anyway 🙂
Another idea; why not tell all your guests to bring their own festival camping chairs… this will guarantee everyone has a seat (if they want to sit down that is) but will also add to the festival atmosphere and even make your guests feel a little more like they are going to a proper festival as they rummage through the garage looking for their chairs from their last festival adventure.
Maybe even get a few hay bales into your back garden and put some blankets over them for some festival style seating. And for night time maybe get a fire pit burning so people can stay warm, sit around, sing songs and share stories late into the night!!! I don’t know about you but all of this is getting me very excited 🙂

Festival Party Fashion
Of course when you go to a music festival you have to plan your festival outfits and festival fashion for the whole weekend. Well a festival at home is no different. Plan your outfits and go wild with your looks. Festivals are an opportunity to have fun with outfits so go festival crazy at home! Put glitter on your face, wear a flower crown or put flowers in your hair and dance the night away in your wellies. In fact why not have a few outfit changes during the day just for fun, but remember you will have to get changed in the tent if you want to have the full festival experience.
In the UK & Ireland we can’t go to an outdoor festival without the essentials and the essentials are Wellies & Poncho’s! Rain is a staple of the UK festival scene and just because you are having a party at home does not mean that you are safe from the rain unfortunately. But don’t let the potential of rain spoil your fun, pick up a few ponchos or a good raincoat you can rely on and get out your fave festival wellies. In fact why not wear your wellies anyway as they not only will they make you feel more like you are at a festival but they also are part of everyones festival fashion planning anyway. And if it does rain, well, dancing in the rain is more fun anyway!
Also let your guests know about the dress code if there is one… tell them to come in their festival best or whatever theme you might want to put across.
Festival Party Food & Drink
There are many options for food and drink depending on the scale of your celebration and the type of party you are looking to have. To begin with you could simply have a BBQ for your family and friends and provide them with a few drinks and ask them to bring a few of their own. Or you could let everyone know that full festival rules apply and they will need to bring all their own booze for the day/weekend just like they would at a proper festival.
If the budget is there you could hire in a bar and/or caterers, or even get a pizza or takeaway delivery at some point of the day. Maybe set up your own Gin Bar or have a cocktail hour. Alternatively you could just make loads of food yourself, really the options are endless, as long as everyone has a drink they will be fine we are sure.
Festival Fun
If listening and singing along to your favourite music, dancing all day and all night with your friends and family, and of course drinking beer and eating loads of food isn’t enough to keep you entertained you could of course add in some festival fun to the party with some garden games or activities. Go old school with some Giant Jenga or tug of war games… why not even get a karaoke going!! You will know your own crowd and know what they will like so no doubt the ideas will easily flow. Dance-off’s are also always a great idea!
So there you have it some ideas to throw your very own festival party at home. It could be a festival birthday party, or a festival party at home just because why not! Maybe you didn’t get Glastonbury tickets but you and all your friends want to get together and have a little festival party to watch it, or maybe its just because the weather is awesome, or maybe you have something awesome to celebrate! Whatever your reason, festival parties at home are loads of fun and we can’t wait to start planning our next one which will be taking place…. this weekend!!!
